Herbal remedies have been used for centuries by our ancestors to treat just about every complaint you could think of. Herbs are a very powerful and effective complementary medicine that can have numerous health benefits. We've lost sight of herbs as medicine since the introduction of pharmaceutical drugs into mainstream medicine and see them as just something we use to flavour food. Using herbs for health can help to improve health and well-being and reduce the burden on the body of relying on conventional medicine which is often quite toxic and has negative effects and horrible side effects that can be avoided using natural medicine.

There are many reasons but one simple one is that the age-old tradition of herbalism and herbal remedies that was passed down from one generation to another has long since faded away, replaced by the convenience that is pharmaceutical medication. It’s so easy just to reach for the pill in a box for a headache than to make a herbal infusion for example.
However, as more of us are getting sick through modern-day living, stress, highly processed foods and overload of chemicals from our foods to the air we breathe we are returning to these old ways of healing. The truth is all of your health needs can be healed or at the very least eased by herbal remedies. There are hundreds of herbs that can be used in a multitude of ways from herbal teas to simple salves. Making your own remedies at home is simple and can be as quick as boiling a kettle. Herbal remedies offer an alternative to pharmaceutical medication for many common illnesses. They can often be used safely alongside most pharmaceutical medication without any negative interactions. Most herbs are safe to use for both adults and children throughout each stage of life. There are of course exceptions, but don’t worry we put any warnings or possible cautions for use with the descriptions of the herbs so you check before you try a herb.
As a certified herbalist, I always tell my clients to discuss with their doctor before they start any new regime. I also feel a responsibility, to be honest about the healing potential of herbs. Whilst I love and am passionate about natural remedies, it would be foolish and irresponsible to make false claims about their healing powers. Despite being touted as a cure for diseases such as cancer, I would not advise any client to abandon conventional treatments, nor disregard the advice of your medical team in favour of herbal remedies. Herbs can be used alongside these more conventional treatments and can be extremely beneficial.
